Hair Bulb: The bottom portion of the hair follicle where cell division occurs to produce new hair. The widened, living part at the base of the hair root.
Hair Follicles: The follicle is a tunnel-like structure in the skin that anchors the hair. The hair follicle is a sheath of skin and connective tissue that surrounds the hair root.
Hair Shaft: This is the part of the hair that you can see. It is made of keratin, a tough, fibrous protein. The visible, non-living strand that extends from the skin.

These new cells, made of keratin, stick together and harden.
As more cells are produced, they are pushed upward, forming the hair shaft that grows out from the skin.
New cells are continuously formed in the hair bulb at the base of the follicle.
